Why

Sir,

In continuation of my telegram No.215 of the 20th November, 1936, on the subject of the recent outbreak of dysentery in Hong Kong, I have the honour to forward for your information a copy of a statement made by me at a meeting of the Legislative Council held on 24th November, together with a copy of the

request for the appointment of a Commission, and of the report of the Director of Medical Services, which are referred to in my statement.

2. You will notice that in the second paragraph of my statement the number of deaths is given as eight, whereas my telegram said nine. The reason for this discrepancy is that one of the European cases mentioned in the telegram preceded the others by over a week and may not therefore be properly associable with the

epidemic.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,
